SF Signal asked me about my favorite pretend spaceship

No, really, there are sci-fi and fantasy fandom blogs that are desperate enough to ask my opinions on fictional spaceships. Mostly Paul Weimer is too nice for his own good over at SF Signal.

Paul was also smart enough to take the Millennium Falcon and Firefly's Serenity out of the running. My answer, the "All Good Things" alternate reality variant of The Next Generation's Enterprise D, is pictured to the right.

Luckily, Paul was wise enough to ask a cavalcade of authors, agents and reviewers like Amanda Bridgeman, K.V. Johansen, Alexandra Pierce, Tehani Wessely, Julia Rios (who did the Force Awakens pod-rant with Paul and I), Joshua Bilmes, Josh Vogt, Brenda Cooper, Jacey Bedford, Laurel Amberdine, L.M. Myles, and Angela Mitchell which fictional spacecraft they'd most want to pilot, captain, and/or own. Heady company far more qualified than a poser like me. Their answers show it.

Shooting the WISB Podcast lets me rant about Force Awakens

Just as they once did when Star Trek Into Darkness arrived in theaters many moons ago, Paul Weimer and Shaun Duke let me back on the Shooting the WISB podcast to share my mildly controversial opinions about Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The healthy debate was joined by Rachael Acks, Julia Rios and Mike R. Underwood, all of whom had more cogent and squee-worthy takes on Episode VII than myself. (Well, except Shaun, whose hate has made him powerful.)

Everything wrong with Star Trek Into Darkness, according to three random geeks

In one those rare moments of serendipitous geekery, Paul Weimer and Shaun Duke threw out a random "anybody want to jump on a podcast about Star Trek Into Darkness in five minutes?" flares on Twitter and, to my own surprise, I had a free evening.

The result is an hour of unremitting podcast hostility towards the Hollywood machine that is dismantling Star Trek, as only ad hoc nerdrage can deliver it.

If you liked the movie and want to understand why you were wrong to do so (he said, tongue only half in cheek), this is the podcast for you. Tune in and unlearn all that J.J. Abrams foolishly tried to teach you. It's fun to use anger for good.

Nerd Word of the Day: Jonbar Hinge

Jonbar Hinge (n.) - An event in history with two (or more) distinct possible outcomes, one of which leads to our familiar present, and the other which leads to an appreciably different world. A Jonbar Hinge is usually (though not always) small and unappreciated at the time, and its consequences are usually only felt in the distant, subsequent future. The term comes from the Jack Williamson short story "John Barr," wherein the protagonist's choice to pick up either a magnet or a pebble ultimately leads to either a utopian future, or global tyranny. And you thought the soup versus salad option at dinner was irelevant.

I bring it up because: JJ Abrams keeps using Jonbar Hinges to tell stories, either in the new Star Trek movie, the Fringe season finale or pretty much all of LOST, though we didn't know it until recently. Dude, seriously, you do good work but get a new schtick, preferably before the Star trek sequel.
